Our Military Kids' activity awards cover the cost (up to $300) of an activity of the child's choosing while a parent is deployed overseas or activated on a stateside named mission with the National Guard or Reserve, or receiving treatment for post-9/11 combat-related injury, illness, or wounds. The activity helps the child focus on something positive as they cope with the stresses of separation from their military parent or while a parent recovers from the visible and invisible wounds of war. Our Military Kids has identified a simple but impactful way of helping military families cope with the challenges of separations during deployments and the recovery period associated with the visible and invisible wounds of war. The extracurricular activities get the children and their parents out of the house and back into the community. From improved school performance to making new friends to combating depression, children reap priceless benefits from the grants. Additionally, parents' lives change for the better as they see their children blossom and find joy in everyday life, often after struggling to cope with their situations. Injured and deployed service members also comment that these grants help them because they know their children are taken care of. They can focus on their mission during deployment or their own recovery when severely injured. The Our Military Kids program started out with what seemed like a simple goal: to help children stay active and healthy during a time of parental injury or deployment. Our Military Kids has achieved this goal and more. By focusing on a single goal for children, the program helps struggling military families to get through very difficult times. This approach to achieving a single goal has resulted in multiple positive outcomes.
Microsoft partners with Benevity to facilitate its donations. Your points redemption activity will be deducted from your account immediately. Within six weeks after the end of the month in which you redeem your points, Microsoft will make a cash donation based on your redemption to a donor-advised fund at the Benevity UK Online Giving Foundation (OGF), with a recommendation that they make a corresponding grant to your selected nonprofit organization. OGF will take exclusive legal control of Microsoft's donation on your behalf. Donation redemptions are non-refundable. If your chosen nonprofit is not able to receive the donation (for example, if it no longer meets the participation criteria), or if the donation is otherwise undeliverable, the cash donation will be redirected to a nonprofit of Microsoft's choosing. Non-profits are not endorsed by Microsoft.
